Relais Villa Petrischio
4 Star****
Via del Petrischio, 25
Farneta, Italy (10 miles from Cortona)

**HOTEL CLOSED OCTOBER TO APRIL**

You can find Relais Villa Petrischio in the heart of Tuscany. The Villa was built in the 18th century on the highest hill of Farneta, which is a little village ten miles away from Cortona. Villa Petrischio is surrounded by three hectares of park with secular pines and cypresses . Enchanting landscapes of Valdichiana surround the Villa. A long time ago the Villa belonged to the family of Count Lambardi, now the new owners have changed it in to a charming and elegant four star Relais. The Villa was built on the highest hill of Farneta and maintains the original architecture and characteristics from the beginning of the 19th century including the brick arches and oak beams in the ceilings. The accommodation offers guests a pleasantly relaxing experience, after a walk in the park or a trip to visit the "pearls of the valley".

18 rooms named after mythological females are situated between the Villa and “Il Borgo” which has a Japanese atmosphere. All the rooms are decorated with precious designs and it's possible to sense the touch of local artisans of the 18th century, without forgetting modern equipment as LCD TV, hydro massage shower and minibar. All the rooms open up to the large green park and around the swimming pool there is natural terrace offering unforgettable views over Tuscany. Pines and cypresses surround the Villa offering ample possibility for relaxing walks. Within the three hectare park there is a possibility to find many beautiful details as little rose fountain and a Japanese garden. From the swimming pool terrace it is possible to look at an inimitable sunset.

Villa Petrischio lies in area where you can not only find the antique tastes of Tuscany, but also tastes of Umbria and Lazio. The Relais offer for guests a “gastronomic tour” in which original and fantasy recipes are blended by our prestigious and capable cooks who are interpreting the “poor” cooking of the renaissance peasants. It is a journey to discover things like crostini’s (small pieces of toast with a variety of toppings) toasted Tuscan bread also with various toppings, “Aqua cotta”,  ”Ribollita”, black Tuscan cabbage soup, coaled steaks from the famous “Chianina”, refined risottos with high quality meat, compositions of vegetables and irresistible desserts. You can sample these culinary delights in our restaurant. At the edge of the swimming pool there is a restaurant, where our young and appreciated Chef offers typical Tuscan plates from an extensive “à la carte” menu. Our 300 carefully selected wine labels have been chosen by a very famous and appreciated wine expert Luca Maroni. From the beginning of 2004, we have been organizing cooking courses, wine, olive and typical Tuscan products tasting.

In addition to the better known Tuscan cities, such as Florence, Pisa, Siena, Arezzo, there are many “minor” towns and places which are worth while a visit and can be easily reached by car from Villa Petrischio. A few minutes away one finds Cortona, summer center of antiques fairs, well known for its magnificent painting of Beato Angelico and its famous Etruhian Museum. Pienza, founded by Pope Pio II and realized by Piccolomini, is the city “born from a love thought and a dream of beauty” a jewel in Renaissance Art. Pienza is also well known for its typical gastronomy shops, full of Tuscan specialties. Other beautiful places to visit : San Quirico d’Orcia, with its marvelous XIII century Roman Collegiate Church and the XVI century Horti Leonini. Sant’Antimo, with its beautiful Abbey, founded by Carlo Magno. Montalcino, kingdom of Brunello wine. Banfi Castle, ancient fortress on the way to the sea, recently restored and now museum of the most refined glass-making techniques for wine bottling. Bagno Vignoni, termal centre which is well known by Romans and frequent destination of Lorenzo il Magnifico and S.Caterina of Siena.
