Next to Via Tornabuoni, an antique aristocratic building in the heart of Florence, covered with splendid frescoes and enriched with antiques, silks, brocades and contemporary works of great artists, is opening for elite hospitality. This is Residenza del Moro, a luxurious epoch residence where sumptuous elegance, top quality comforts and impeccable services, are the demonstration of an exclusive concept of hospitality.

In the heart of Florence, on Via del Moro, one of the oldest streets, Residenza del Moro enjoys a privileged position among the 5 star hotels and luxurious residences in Florence, ideal for conveniently seeing the city on foot. A short walk leads to the most famous museums and sights of the city: Santa Maria del Fiore, Florence's Duomo, with Brunelleschi's splendid dome, Campanile by Giotto and the Baptistery are 5 minutes away, Galleria degli Uffizi, one of the most important art collections in the world, which contains countless masterpieces of Italian Renaissance artists (Botticelli, Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo etc.), but also German and Flemish artists (Dürer, Rembrandt, Rubens etc.), is 10 minutes away, as are Piazza della Signoria with Palazzo Vecchio and the picturesque Ponte Vecchio. Borgo San Lorenzo, cherished by the Medici family, is home to the Basilica with the Cappelle Medicee and the magnificent Sagrestia Nuova, by Michelangelo, and the Laurentian Library, can be reached in less than 10 minutes.

But the immediate surroundings of Residenza del Moro are filled with art and charm: within 200 meters is the Church of Santa Maria Novella, overlooking the square of the same name with its lovely facade by Alberti, architect also of the Tempietto del Santo Sepolcro, the precious gem in the Cappella Rucellai in the Church of San Pancrazio on Via della Spada, now deconsacrated and dedicated to a museum of the sculptor Marino Marini's works.

Suspended in time, between Renaissance, Baroque, Enlightenment and Romantic memories, present today among contemporary works of art, the rooms in Residenza del Moro are a unique representation of Florence organized in an itinerary of five centuries of art and culture.

Extremely elegant and tasteful, they are enhanced by cutting edge comforts and technologies and a faultless service of a superior level among the 5 star hotels and luxury facilities in Florence. The Residenza del Moro is located in the rooms of the piano nobile of Palazzo Niccolini - Bourbon, redefined by a careful restoration which enhanced the original forms and decorations. The first mention of the building dates back to the 16th century when the wealthy Da Sommaia merchants bought various homes on Via del Moro to transform them into a single large residence.

At the beginning of the 18th century the building became the property of the noble Marquis Bourbon of Monte di Santa Maria, who put up the family coat of arms which still exists on the corner of the building at Via Fossi and Via della Spada. Marquis Lorenzo Niccolini purchased it in 1863 and carried out extensive renovation which continued for many years and even in subsequent decades, under later owners. The current appearance of the building reflects the grandiose architecture, with the original 16th century facade, a splendid 15th century garden and beautiful 17th century staircase. Like in a collection of artwork, all of the original frescoes, stucco work and furniture, from the 15th and 19th centuries, create an artistic itinerary which highlights the rooms and suites of the Residenza and are a unique exclusive privilege of its guests.

The common areas of the hotel such as the library, reception, & garden, a Wi-Fi system is available. On the ground floor there is a fitness center.

CLIENT COMMENTS:

"The hotel in Florence was truly fantastic.  The garden was beautiful, they just happened to have a private art showing while we were there.   They also upgraded us to a suite with a large marble shower, and a separate jacuzzi.  The service was also fantastic and helpful, and the place was very clean.   The work-out facility was also a nice bonus.  Again, the old palace had lots of culture (beautiful ceilings) and was just far enough off the main roads to keep the noise from the tourist areas down.  Also, it was very close to the train station, which was very convenient.  If we hadn't paid for the tours, we may have just stayed in this room our entire visit!  The walking tour was very interesting, and the wine tour was good as well.  (Although all together it was a very busy day to have a 3-hour walking tour in the AM and a 9-hour  wine tour in the PM - probably would separate those next time but we did it all!) The hotel was close to fantastic eateries.   We had so much fun trying different Italian foods.  We enjoyed the different wines even more.  The best way to see things..definitely..is on foot."   10/2010

"Also, I want to let you know how absolutely pleased my clients were with Residenza Del Moro in Florence. They spent 4 nights there in mid-May and could not compliment the staff and large room and breakfast ... enough!" 5/09

"Just spoke with my clients and thought you would love to know how please they were with all their hotel.  They would highly recommend  Del Moro to anyone.   The hotel was beautiful, just enough off the beaten track to not be right in the touristy area, but an easy walk to everything – they said their bedroom was a ballroom!" 10/09

"Georgeous hotel with a ver nice and helpful staff." 10/09

"We had a fabulous time in Florence.  The hotel was lovely -  our suite included two huge bathrooms which was a real plus with the two boys.  Although it was billed as having a view of the Arno, you really had to stand at the window and angle your neck "just right" to the right to catch a glimpse of it, but we didn't mind.  The top floor had a beautiful terrace which was enclosed for the winter and heated and that's where they served breakfast - which was very ample and delicious.  The view from the terrace was magnificent and hotel guests could also use the space to hang out in during the day - to have a drink (honor bar), read, play cards, etc.  The fireworks were amazing up there as we could see them going off from three different spots!

We had absolutely no trouble getting into anything!  Reservations were unnecessary except for the Uffizi.  We actually walked right in to the Accademia to see the David and there might only have been about 100 other people in the museum!

The weather was cloudy with a bit of rain but nothing that interfered with walking and the street life. Temperature in the 50's.  We were told by other guests (Italians) that usually it is sunny during this time of year. It only poured on the last afternoon, New Year's Eve day. All the food we ate was wonderful but we had  especially memorable meals at La Giostra and Quattro Lioni.  I also loved the Mercato Centrale - I love a food market!.  Another special place was the Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella, an apothecary that sold homeopathic medicines and created perfumes for the individual.   It was started by monks in the 1600's and the building was beautiful and smelled wonderful.  Very interesting place - even the boys liked it." 12/09
