The Marais is our favorite quartier. Much of the area dates from the 16th and 17th
centuries featuring narrow streets, fine architecture, boutiques, antique shops,
restaurants and pavement cafés. Strict building laws protect its authenticity. This is
where Parisians choose to wander on weekends! The centerpiece is, of course, the Place des
Vosges, the purest example of 17th Century architecture, its arcaded façade set around a
central park with trees and benches - great for a picnic lunch! Easy walking distance to
the Picasso and Carnavalet Museums, Bastille Opera, Ile St. Louis, Notre Dame, Ile de la
Cité and much more! You will find mouth-watering specialty food shops (baker, deli,
cheese, fish, wine, etc.,) in the very best French tradition, as well as an excellent
supermarket all within a 5 minute walk on the rue St. Antoine.
On the rue des Tournelles, just a step to the east of the Place des Vosges, is this
impressive 1910 stone-fronted building leading with two brick built courtyards. Our
apartment is on the 5th floor off the second inner-courtyard ? so it is well-protected
from street noise! Small elevator takes you to this west-facing apartment overlooking the
courtyards and surrounding rooftops.
Compact at 350 square feet, this attractive, well-distributed two-room apartment is
perfect for 2 and will sleep up to 4. Carpeted throughout and attractively decorated in a
traditional style with some nice antiques and in a superb location, this apartment is an
excellent value for the money!
To the left of the entrance is first a small shower room with WC and nearby washing
machine. Next to the left is a well-equipped galley-style kitchen with good built-in
cupboards, classic oven, 2 electric burners. Next comes the living room with a cherry wood
sofabed (which converts into 1 or 2 comfortable single beds with proper mattresses),
dining furniture, TV, radio and a selection of English books! Beyond is the bedroom with
double bed and lots of built-in cupboards, a rarity in Paris! Gas central heating. Hair
dryer. Initial linen supplied. Local line telephone.
