This apartment is situated on the first (noble) floor of a 17th century ‘hôtel particulier’ in the Rue St. Louis en l’Ile, the main road running east to west on the Ile St. Louis. In the past, the apartment was owned by an ex-treasury minister of Louis XIV who, it is claimed, hid treasure in the building. The Ile St. Louis has a ‘village’ feel and, after just a few days, guests here will feel like locals, becoming familiar with its boutiques, old-fashioned bistros, brasseries, delicate chocolate and food shops, bakeries (with delicious ‘baguette à l’ancienne’ and a wonderful cheese shop.
Entrance to the building is through a magnificent door into a pretty, refurbished courtyard. The apartment overlooks the courtyard and is particularly quiet and peaceful for such a central location. The rooms are furnished tastefully and feature an outstandingly high ceiling and beautifully restored, painted ancient exposed beams. The very spacious living/dining area has parquet floors, a fireplace flanked by massive gilded mirrors, a fine chandelier and Renaissance style buffet chiffonier. Three large, tall windows and soft colored off-white paintwork on the walls, add to the feeling of light and space. Amenities include cable television (CNN, BBC World and other international channels), hi-fi stereo/CD player, telephone with answering machine and entrance intercom device. This is a non-smoking apartment and pets are also not allowed.
