VILLA DELROS
Hostess: Rosemarie Diletti
Via Livigno 166
Rome 00188, Italy
**Closed November/December 07/January/February 08**
With the momentous occasion of the millennium combined with the Holy Year celebration at the Vatican, a myriad of bed and breakfasts popped up in Rome, among them Villa Delros. Offering hospitality to foreigners is nothing new to Swiss-born Rosemarie Diletti, whose daughter, Patrizia, took over the family's Hotel Venezia in Rome. With the children grown and busy with their own careers, and because she misses the daily contact with international guests, Rosemarie decided to offer accommodation in the family home on the outskirts of the city. The sprawling, very modern home built in the sixties is located on a small road with other large estates and the property extends to the back overlooking lush green countryside. Two spacious air-conditioned guest suites on the upper floor each have a double bedroom, bathroom, corner kitchenette, sitting room, and large terrace. A third suite is located at garden level. With Rosemarie being a collector of antiques, the house is filled to the brim with pieces from the baroque period, as seen in the common rooms downstairs as well as in guestrooms. Breakfast is served out on the terrace looking out to the garden and a swimming pool. Transportation to the local train station is provided and the center of Rome is just 15 minutes away from this quiet location.
As stated in Sandra Gustafson's book "Great Sleeps" -
"Welcome to Villa Delros, un mondo di sojni ( a world of dreams). Discerning guests who appreciate the beauty of staying in a peaceful country villa not far from the center of Rome will never forget their sojourn at Villa Delros, and will probably spend a good portion of their stay plotting their return. Set amongst the rolling hills surrounding Rome, the magnificent villa provides guests with a rare look inside the art-filled home Sra. Diletti built a quarter century ago. Over the years she has collected priceless pieces of museum-quality furniture, paintings, and artifacts. The expansive grounds serve as the perfect backdrop for her beautiful plants and flowers. Guests are invited to enjoy the terraces, the swimming pool, or strolling through the grounds.
The two suites and two single rooms in the main house are all lavishly furnished with Rosmarie's beautiful antiques and painting. The air - conditioned suites have a bedroom with one large bed that can be divided into twins, a sitting room with comfortable sofa, chairs, and worktable, and a dressing room. The beautiful baths have both a tub and shower and are fully stocked with toiletries. The single rooms are without air conditioning, but have the added advantage of a small kitchen corner. The bathrooms are lovely, one with a shower, the other with hand-painted ceramics and a tub. A wonderful breakfast is , of course, included, and upon request, Rosmarie will prepare dinner for her guests, probably using whatever herbs and vegetables she can get from her gardens. For motorists, there is free parking. Public transportation is about a ten-minute trip by car and can be provided for guests with out their own cars.
