La Canonica di Cortine, in the midst of vineyards and woods dividing the regions of Florence and Siena, distinguishes itself from among all the other historical residences in Chianti. Cortine is the name of the medieval castle (from which La Canonica is a part) mentioned in the records of 1037. Surrounded by stone walls and flowering hedges this private holiday residence includes the main villa and 10 stone villas which have been converted into fabulous holiday homes.

Castrum: The villa owes its name to the Castle (Castrum) of Cortine. As you go through the large gate you will come to a private car park with its independent entrance in front of the first of the gardens belonging only to the guests of “Castrum”. On the ground floor is the large salon, a spacious and functional kitchen, a dining room with fireplace, a T.V. room, a double bedroom “BOCCACCIO”, and two bathrooms.  A side entrance takes you directly to another large park with a swimming pool reserved exclusively for guests of the Villa.  This apartmenht is air-conditioned.  

Arriving at the first floor from the grand salon we find a double bedroom “PETRARCA” equipped with an old-fashioned canopy bed, and bath, two twin bedrooms “ARIOSTO” and “GALILEO” each equipped with two single beds, and another bathroom. There is also a narrow terrace with beautiful views of the Tuscan countryside which runs almost the entire length of the Villa and is accessible from two of the bedrooms. At the end of the passage another double bedroom “MACHIAVELLI”, with magnificent furnishings and a terrace boasting a gorgeous view on the Italian garden of the Villa. Not Air Conditioned.

Apartments: Surrounded by stone walls and flowering hedges lays this private holiday residence, the several stone cottages and a little chapel which have been converted into fabulous holiday homes:  – “ALBA” “BACCO 1” – “LUCIA” – “MERIGGIO” – “PRIMAVERA”–“PALAGETTO” –  “SOLATIO”– “TRAMONTO” – “VESPRO”.    There is also a grand watch tower which has been transformed into an elegant ‘BED & BREAKFAST’.  Terra cotta paved pathways lead in and around all the houses in this enchanting medieval village. The holiday apartments all have their own private garden and patio and together with the ‘Bed and Breakfast’ share the artistically designed swimming pool with  hydro-massage.   The result   of fine and careful restoration work of the whole residential complex is awe-inspiring.  The atmosphere of long ago has been recreated through careful restoration, maintenance of original colour schemes, selection of appropriate antique furniture and the use of well-chosen fabrics in cretonne, linen, cotton and original English chintz (even in double-faced damask).  All these details show the buildings have been furnished with quality and good taste.  “La Canonica di Cortine” is a delightful step into the past with all the added modern comforts and luxuries of today. All apartments have air-conditioning in the bedrooms only except Palagetto & Villa Castrum which are not air-conditioned.

 ALBA (95 sq. metres) 4 people -From the independent entrance you come to the sitting room and dining room separated by an arch.   From here you go into the kitchen which opens out onto a patio surrounded by a hedge.  The first floor is made up of a double bedroom, a room with two single beds and a bathroom.

BACCO 1 (80 sq. metres) 4 people - The apartment is situated on the ground floor with an enchanting view over the Chianti hills. There is a kitchen, a dining/living room, a double room, a twin bedded room, a bathroom.

LUCIA (60 sq. metres) 2 people - A private patio with a garden is the outside of this nice villa situated in a very quiet position with an independent entrance. Entering the apartment you have a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom with a shower and a tube, 1 double room.

 MERIGGIO (80 sq. metres) 4 people -   This apartment has an independent entrance.  On the ground floor, separated by a large arch, we find the sitting room, the dining room and the kitchen which opens out onto a private garden with patio.  On the first floor is a double bedroom, a room with two single beds and a bathroom. 

PALAGETTO (75 sq. metres) 4 people - This apartment was created out of the restoration of the old castle which dates back to the XI century. A private gate allows entry to the garden which is directly of the splendid kitchen -  dining room/sitting room dominated by a big fireplace with the coat-of-arms of the family Falciani-Fusi. A double room with bathroom suite is accessible from the sitting room. Another bedroom with two single beds and a small bathroom complete this apartment which is situated within the walls of Villa Castrum with an independent entrance.   This apartment is air-conditioned.

PRIMAVERA (70 sq. metres) 4 people - The apartment has an independent entrance with patio outside. Downstairs there is a living/dining room, a kitchen. Upstairs there is a double room, a twin bedded room and bathroom. 

SOLATIO (80 sq. metres) – 4 people - This splendid apartment was originally a barn belonging to the Castle of Cortine.   From the independent entrance you arrive at the ground floor:   the sitting room/dining room is dominated by a lovely fireplace;  the kitchen opens out onto a patio;  a bathroom with shower and a double room complete the ground floor.   Climbing up a stone staircase you come to the first floor with another double bedroom and another bathroom.         

TRAMONTO (95 sq. metres) 4 - 6 people - You arrive at the patio of this apartment’s independent entrance via a little terracotta path. On the ground floor is a sitting room with the fireplace, a dining room, a kitchen and a bathroom. Upstairs on the first floor there is a double bedroom, a bedroom with two single beds and a bathroom.  

VESPRO (80 sq. metres) 4 people - Vespro used to be the chapel belonging to the Castle of Cortine.  Today it is a splendid two floor apartment surrounded by a private garden.   On the ground floor there is a sitting room, a bathroom, a dining room with fireplace and a kitchen which opens out onto a private patio.  An open staircase from the sitting room leads to a loft furnished with two single beds, a double bedroom and a bathroom.

TORRE VECCHIA (a “Bed and Breakfast” of outstanding elegance)

“Torre Vecchia” is another single building which used to belong to the medieval Castle of Cortine and, after careful and delicate renovation work it has been transformed into a “Bed and Breakfast” complex with five bedrooms tastefully furnished with careful attention to its historical origins and style. There is two common rooms with a bathroom for guests to use to join together as well.  As soon as you arrive at its entrance you will be struck by its welcoming and refined décor. From here you come to the large “communal hall” whose spirits are raised in winter by the flames of this fine secular fire. In the dining room you may enjoy Tuscan bread and honey for breakfast and, on special occasions, elegant private dinners. In every room in the tower there hangs, like a guardian angel, a reproduction of a Renaissance painting. Air-Conditioned.

 Florence the city of art and culture, has created the Italian masterpieces of Leonardo, Michelangelo, Brunelleschi, Donatello. The Cathedral, the museums and private palaces offer highly attracting visits. Shopping in the center leads to the Via Tornabuoni and along the jewelry stores on the famous Ponte Vecchio.

Siena is a magical city with an air of antique and indescribable mystery that pervades the streets, piazzas and contrade (district). From Piazza del Campo, famous in the world for the horses race, the Palio, with the Palazzo Pubblico and the Torre del Mangia to the Duomo, to Santa Maria della Scala complex considered the third artistic pole of the city.

San Gimignano the medieval many-towered hilltop town only 23 Km far from the Canonica, presents an unforgettable Tuscan scene.

1. We can organize cooking classes inside our resort but only for group of minimum 8 pax. If they're less the lessons takes place inside the chosen restaurant . Prices are around 100,00 euro per person but we have to ask them in advance as for the availability.
2. We do organize dinners on request with typical tuscan food at euro 45,00 per person but no lunch ( we do not have a restaurant inside our resort so we have to call a chef from outside). The menus are standard but can be modified in advance from the client ( in case there are vegetarians or no dairy product ). 
3. There's a washing machine inside every apartment. We do not provide the soap.
4. We also have a laundry service available everyday except Saturday and Sunday. The price switch between 6,00 and 10,00 Euro pe clothes.

Cottage/apartment rates are per week and include VAT, use of water, gas electricity, weekly linen, and final cleaning.

*Heating is not included and will be charged on spot at consumption at euro 3,10 at m3. 

**In Castrum Villa and Palagetto House only, air conditioning is charged at consumption (0.30 Euros/kwh).
