DIRECTIONS TO VILLA LA VIGNA - Monteriggioni (Siena)

FROM FLORENCE

- Take Florence-Siena Highway (called the RACCORDO0 in direction SIENA
- Get off at COLLE VAL D'ELSA SUD exit (8th exit)
- At top of exit ramp TURN RIGHT.
- Go straight through all rotaries (roundabouts) you encounter (three of them) and proceed on ROUTE 541 to intersection just before bridge.
- Bear LEFT in direction of SCORGIANO. DO NOT CROSS OVER BRIGDE.
- Continue in this road following sign for SCORGIANO.
- TURN LEFT at first dirt road that has blue and white sign for IL PIAGGIONE.
- Proceed 400 meters on dirt road and TURN RIGHT into cypress tree lined driveway.
- Villa La Vigna is at the top of the driveway.

FROM MILAN (& other points north)

- Take A1 Highway south and get off at FIRENZE CERTOSA exit.
- After paying toll TURN RIGHT onto Florence-Siena Highway)
-NOW FOLLOW DIRECTIONS ABOVE "FROM FLORENCE"

FROM ROME (& other points south)

- Take A1 Highway north to VAL DI CHIANA exit.
- After paying toll TURN RIGHT and follow signs for SIENA.
- Proceed toward Siena and when on the outskirts of town follow signs for FIRENZE.
- Take Siena-Florence Highway and exit at COLLE VAL D'ELSA SUD.
- At top of exit ramp TURN LEFT.
-NOW FOLLOW DIRECTIONS ABOVE "FROM FLORENCE" beginning with
"Go straight through all rotaries ..."

FROM PISA

1. Go directly on to the FI-LI-PI HIGHWAY (PRONOUNCED FEE-LEE-PEE IN CASE YOU WANT TO ASK YOUR CAR RENTAL AGENT) as you exit the Pisa airport.

2. Continue to the GINESTRA EXIT and get off.

3. Follow signs for CERBAIA.

4. At Cerbaia follow signs for SAN CASCIANO.

5. At San Casciano follow green signs for SIENA and get on Florence-Siena highway (4 lane no toll highway called the RACCORDO locally).

6. Stay on this highway to the COLLE VAL D'ELSA SUD EXIT and get off.

7. TURN RIGHT at top of exit ramp.

8. Proceed to traffic circle (called ROTATORIA BELVEDERE) AND GO STRAIGHT THROUGH.

9. Proceed on Rt 541 going straight through the following traffic circles TO A BRIDGE. DO NOT CROSS THE BRIDGE - BEAR SLIGHTLY LEFT DIRECTION SCORGIANO.

10. Continue in the direction of SCORGIANO, past first dirt road with blue & white sign for IL PIAGGIONE, to SECOND DIRT ROAD marked STRADA DI PIEVE A CASTELLO. TURN LEFT INTO THIS DIRT ROAD.

11. Follow dirt road TO THE TOP OF THE HILL.

IL FIENILE is on the left, just behind two large mulberry trees.

Please park near the mulberry trees.

If your clients fly into Rome they should take the train to Florence and then the BUS to Colle Val d’Elsa.
No point taking the train to Siena from Florence. Does not help or get anyone closer to La Tana or La Vigna.
If clients fly into Florence (which is what we ALWAYS advise people do) then they should pick up their car rental at the airport and follow my directions to the villas. If they do not have car rental then they should take the bus service from the airport to the Florence train station, walk around the corner to the bus depot and take the bus to COLLE VAL D’ELSA (busses almost every hour until 9 pm or thereabouts) where some one should pick them up (presumably another member of their group OR we can arrange a car/driver service with ample lead time for around 50-70 Euro). For 100 Euro we can have driver pick up at Florence airport and drive to either villa. Again lead time helps to ensure drivers are available.
Florence to Colle Val d’Elsa bus takes 50 minutes to an hour and then they are about 20 minutes from La Tana (10 minutes from La Vigna) by car; Florence to Siena bus takes an hour to 1hr15min and then they are 30 minutes from La Vigna and 40 minutes from La Tana by car. Florence to Siena train takes up to 2 hours as it goes around a long route stopping in a lot of little towns on the way.
IMPORTANT: WHEN TAKING THE BUS TO COLLE VAL D’ELSA GUESTS SHOULD GET OFF AT MAIN BUS STOP IN TOWN CENTER. THE STOP HAS A SPANKING, NEW COVERED WAITING AREA ALONG THE SIDE OF THE STREET WHERE THE BUS STOPS. MAKE SURE THEY ARE TOLD NOT TO GET OFF AT OTHER STOPS OR THEY WON’T BE FOUND!!
