I've just returned from a great trip to Italy and I will be sending you an email for each of the areas of Umbria, Tuscany, Rome and Florence! Here is the FIRST! UMBRIA!

The following hotels are all located within an hour or two from Rome. Much of Umbria looks as it did hundreds of years ago, including the areas of Perugia, Assisi, Trevi, and Todi. The best way to see Umbria is to wander off the beaten path on to the side roads to the small towns. Here one will see brilliant flowers, ancient buildings, and Etruscan sites and Eugubian tables (300 - 1000 BC).

Hotel Antica Dimora alla Rocca - 4 Star**** TREVI- Antica Dimora alla Rocca is a breathtakingly decorated hotel built in the 1500s as a prince's palace. It is filled with palatial furnishings and frescoed hallways. The hotel also features a spa. Double classic rooms start from 71 - 125 Euro,  superior double rooms from 89 - 140 Euro, deluxe double rooms from 105 - 150 Euro and suites from 140 - 210 Euro. Rates are per night and include VAT, service, and American breakfast. Trevi is located on top of a hill and is one of the six "slow" cities in Umbria, which means green environment, no noise, and historical preservation. It would feel downright foreign to anyone coming from Siena. There are no McDonald's or car alarms.

Antica Dimora alla Rocca

La Palazetta del Vescovo - 4 Star**** - After the owners spend years working as managers in the corporate world they decided to dedicate their lives to the restoration of La Palazetta del Vescovo, which was a ruin of the 18th century. They wanted to service guests from around the world. This stunning property is NEAR TODI in a small medieval village called Fratta Todina. Here you will find magnificent views, beautiful gardens and personal attention. La Palazetta del Vescovo offers huge beautiful bedrooms and bathrooms and common as if in a home. This is a special place offering ceramic or cooking classes as well as excursions and private visits, which are not normally known about. This is the ideal central location within 30 - 60 minutes from Perugia, Assisi, and Orvieto. Rates in a romantic double start from 180 Euro per night, superior doubles from 195 Euro per night, and suites from 220 Euro per night. Rates include VAT, service, and breakfast.

     La Palazzetta del Vescovo

Locanda Palazzone - 5 Star*****-ORVIETO - The restoration of this gorgeous hotel is a stunning mix of contemporary design and historical preservation. Locanda Palazzone is located on top of one of the highest hills in the area and the views are breathtaking! The dedicated management is "hands on" and the suggestions about events and what to do you won't find in a book. The hotel boasts fabulous suites and the rooms have won design awards. Breakfast is served in the garden and dinner is prepared each evening Thursday through Sunday. Rates for suites range from 160 to 354 Euro per night including VAT, service, and breakfast. Locanda Palazzone offers discounts for stays of four nights or more.

Villa d'Assio - 4 Star****- REITI -This charming property is located 36 miles North of Rome. This Is an old village and has a river running through it. The hotel features two restaurants, bar and pool bar, room service, basketball, horseback riding, tennis courts, mountain bikes and a concierige for planning tours. Rates for standard double rooms start from 80 Euro, superior double rooms from 100 Euro and suites from 130 Euro per night. Rates include VAT, service, & breakfast.

Valle di Assisi Hotel & Resort - 4 Star**** - ASSISI - Apartments also! This hotel and resort is located on a 70-acre estate just three miles from Assisi. The resort prides itself on being in contact with nature and the original environment. The hotel has 37 rooms. There are also five farmhouses with prestigious apartments all furnished with ancient furniture and can accommodate two to six people. One of the farmhouses has five bedrooms and five bathrooms and can accommodate from 10 to 12 people. The Valle di Assisi also boasts  a health spa and center, conference center, winery, a chapel for weddings, and a natural lake where one can kayak and fish. This is a beautiful new resort with almost everything you can think of, including a very warm and efficient staff. Rates for classic double rooms start from 99 Euro, superior doubles from 119 Euro, and deluxe rooms from 149 Euro. Rates are per night and include breakfast. Daily rates for one bedroom apartments start from 75 Euro per night, two bedroom apartments from 96 Euro per night and two-bedroom deluxe apartments from 109 Euro per night. Rates do not include breakfast or daily cleaning. Discounts for weekly stays in the apartments!
