34 Great King Street
Edinburgh EH3 6QH
The Howard is an intimate and discreet luxury 5-star hotel which occupies three
Georgian townhouses in a super-convenient location in the heart of Edinburgh's New Town.
The Howard is a classically elegant hotel both outside and in, and has just 18
luxury rooms and suites, named after Edinburgh streets. In keeping with the
character of the building, we have used rich fabrics, oil paintings and opulent
furnishings to make the hotel deeply comfortable, a 5-star home-from-home. You will
quickly feel as though you have lived here forever.
A key feature of the service at The Howard hotel is the butler - actually a collection
of butlers, who take care of everything from car parking to ironing to late-night
room service to theatre bookings. You will find them very useful, whatever your reason for
being in Edinburgh.
The Howard also has its own intimate restaurant, The Atholl. This
was originally intended as a dining room just for guests, but proved so popular with local
residents - especially for our famous afternoon tea - that it has grown into a properly
sophisticated, luxury restaurant. It only seats 14, however; so don't forget to book.
Pre-dinner drinks and nightcaps are served in the hotel drawing room - a lovely space with
curving, barrel-shaped walls and deep knole sofas to sink into after a hard day's shopping
or sightseeing in Edinburgh.
The Howard is also a popular wedding venue in Edinburgh, being able to accommodate up to 40 people for intimate weddings in the Gregorian Atholl room.
The Howard provides luxury accommodation, unparalleled in Edinburgh. There are 18 elegant, opulent and romantic rooms at The Howard Hotel, each named after an Edinburgh street or district. These are the 5-star luxury townhouse bedrooms you've seen in your dreams.
We've used rich, colourful, contemporary fabrics to create a traditional look and a deeply relaxing, romantic ambience. No two hotel rooms are identical in size, shape or aspect because they occupy a row of classic Georgian Edinburgh townhouses.
To help a bit, we have put them into four categories: Luxury Bedrooms, Superior Rooms, Junior Suites and Terraced Suites. All of The Howard's luxury hotel rooms are full of Georgian character, intimate and truly romantic. The rooms come in varying proportions and can be double or twin; some have canopy beds. Bathrooms are ensuite and intricately thought-out, some with separate showers.
If you've brought your ballgown or several changes of clothing to take account of the climate in Scotland, you'll need a hotel room like these, with extra wardrobe or dressing-room space, a king-sized bed and an area for sitting back, kicking your shoes off and enjoying afternoon tea or a glass of champagne, with the superb city of Edinburgh just beyond your hotel room window.
The Howard is located:
From the moment you arrive, your dedicated butler will tend to your every need from unpacking your bags and serving afternoon tea in the Drawing Room to co-ordinating your social itinerary and serving a three-course dinner in your suite, so that you can totally relax. During your stay, youll be taken back to the time of traditional Georgian pampering, as you relax in one of our eighteen individually characterised rooms (some bathrooms even have freestanding roll top baths).
You can check in to your room from 3pm on the day of arrival, and have the convenience of checking out at 12noon on the day of departure, should you have a late start.
