Chipping Campden
Gloucestershire GL55 6AN
The Cotswold House is a country hotel. It stands in pride of place on Chipping Campden's historic High Street and dates back to the 17th century. Originally built as the country home of a prosperous Cotswold wood merchant, it has been Campden's leading hotel since the thirties.
Now painstakingly restored to its original splendor, the Cotswold House is arguably one of the finest hotels in the Cotswolds. Behind its imposing front door lies all that is best in hotel-keeping, where the emphasis is one comfort, discreet friendly service and attention to detail.
Rooms throughout are elegantly furnished, with antiques and works of art complementing the many period features. The original spiral staircase listed as being of special architectural interest, is a visual delight. So too is the Restaurant which enjoys not only delightful views of the garden but also an enviable reputation for its food.
Upstairs there are fifteen luxurious bedrooms. Each room is highly individual and is decorated and furnished with its own unique theme. All have private bathrooms with power showers and are also equipped with direct dial telephone, internet connections, mini-bar, tea/coffee facilities, antique furnishings, library, TV with radio, CD, & DVD. The Montrose rooms as well as the junior suites and suites are all air conditioned.
Easily accessible by road and rail, Chipping Campden is just over 90 miles from London and makes an ideal base for exploring the Cotswolds and Shakespeare's country. The town has changed little over the centuries. Its gently curving High Street is said to have provided the inspiration for Nash when designing London's Regent Street and was later described by Trevelyn as 'the most beautiful village street left in this island'.
"Cotswold House Hotel, in its imposing Regency splendor, sits in the heart of Chipping Campden, a stunning town of golden Cotswold stone. The hotel has recently undergone a massive refurbishment, to provide guests with the finest facilities. You are greeted warmly by owners themselves, and shown to your room up the breathtaking staircase. This is the place to come for a treat, excellent food, and old fashioned pampering.
Once called " the most beautiful town in England", Chipping Campden is a jewel, with its shops, galleries, and churches, all built in traditional Cotswold stone. Beyond are rolling hills waiting to be explored: exquisite villages nestling in the valleys; church spires proudly towering through the canopies of ancient oak trees; splendid castles and historic houses.
Cotswold House offers guests two restuarants to choose from: the intimate Garden Restaurant with its glorious French windows overlooking the garden, or the more contemporary atmosphere of the popular Hicks' Brasserie Bar, open all day for breakfast, light lunches, teas and dinner. Pre-dinner drinks can be enjoyed in front of the blazing log fire in the drawing room, while you make your choice from the menu and let chef Simon Hulstone and his team create a meal for you to savor." - as seen in the Pride of Britain
