Press Quotes -
(From The Sunday London Times - 10 Jan. '99) Every big city has its tourist ghetto. In London it is Sussex Gardens, a half-mile drag between Hyde Park & Edgware Road on which almost every building is some sort of hotel. Many are respectable, family-run establishments, a few are crash pads or overpriced shoeboxes: but one - The Pavilion Hotel - is special. Behind an anonymous Victorian facade, the Pavilion boasts some of the capital's most outlandish, kitsch and breathtakingly over-the-top interiors. It was opened six years ago by a brother and sister team, Danny & Noshi Karne. He is a former fashion model, she a dental student with a penchant for interior design. Despite keeping their rates low, the Karnes attract a bohemian crowd of up-an-coming pop stars, international fashion models, photographers and television presenters. "We now get all sorts of models and musicians, and the rooms are regularly used by magazines for fashion shoots." About 40% of guests are from overseas, mostly New York, Japan, & Holland. The staff are friendly, timekeeping is relaxed, breakfast is delivered to your room "anytime you like", and Karne knows several friendly music promoters who will often put guests' names on the door at some of the capital's better club nights.

On a street on anonymous budget, hotels near Hyde Park, the Pavilion is a world apart. Among its 30 threatrically themed rooms are Honky-Tonk Afro, a lime-green homage to the disco seventies; Highland Fling, a tongue-in-cheek pasticher of a Scottish baronial bedroom; and the fantastical Moorish-Art Deco Casablanca Nights. Be warned: The crowd of musicians and fashionistas can get as loud as the color scheme. - Travel & Leisure, March 2003
