Kensington was made a Royal Borough at Queen Victoria's request in 1901 and is now the most affluent borough (local authority area) in Britain. The ritzy residential area of Knightsbridge in the northeast gives way to the neighborhoods of South Kensington and Earls Court, which are thriving with tourists and tourist accommodation. Kensington is probably best known today for Kensington Palace (gardens pictured above) the former home of Princess Diana. It is also the place to head to if you are looking for a spot of culture, in one large block you can find 3 major museums.
